The huge lake Lac du Der is located in the North East of France, in the middle of the Champagne. It is an artificial lake, it was created around 1970 and serves as a water storage for the river Marne, when a lot of rain and melt water is supplied at the end of winter. The water level is very dynamic. February / March usually at its highest and October at its driest. The Lac du Der is famous for its cranes. They visit the lake during bird migration and a large part of them hibernate there too. In November there are between 100,000 and 200,000! From Oktober to early March you can enjoy these beautiful birds and their call. The climate is mild, the landscape of the Der is gently sloping with many winding roads and cozy villages. The Lac du Der has 6 beautiful clean beaches in summer. Many houses, but also the churches, for example, are built in half-timbered style. My houses are also built in half-timbered style. My houses are old, both are about 300 years old. They offer you every comfort and are comfortable even in winter. In short: nice houses in a beautiful walking and cycling area. Nice towns in the area are Troyes, Verdun and Reims. And of course there are many winegrowers who are happy to let you taste their champagnes.
